“Believe it or go mad.”

Yesterday, the guest preacher at church was talking about our need to praise God for who He is, praise Him for what He’s done, and praise him for what he WILL do.   He reminded us of the story of Moses and the Red Sea, in which God leads Moses and the Israelites out of Egypt by parting the Red Sea.  As he discussed the story and we went over the Scripture in Exodus 14, the preacher said,

“Just as the Israelites came to the Red Sea and felt they were completely boxed in with no where to go, we often feel the same.  We think we there is no plan, no way out.  But the truth is- when we think there is no plan, God has one.  Believe it or go mad.”

Believe it or go mad.  It made me kind of chuckle to myself for a second because he was so blunt.  But the truth in it is so clear.  We must trust that God is working all the time, that He has a plan, and that He is the One worthy of our praise, or indeed we will go crazy.  What else is there to put our trust in?  Nothing.  People let us down, money can’t do it, the government surely shows no security.  I return to the lyrics of a well known hymn:  “My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus blood and righteousness.”

Today, my brother and sister-in-law, whom I to refer to as Ad&Ans, will have a nephew!   Ans’s sister will be delivering Baby Trenton at 1:30 EST.  It has been a rollercoaster ride of emotions for the family over the past 9 months as the doctors have come to find some medical issues with Trenton.  Through every test they’ve run and every MRI, the only thing the doctors have been able to say is- “we’ll know more when he is delivered.”  To read more about Trenton’s story, click over to and scroll down to “Trenton’s story”.

Needless to say, there are alot of unanswered questions about Trenton’s health, but the doctors and nurses are prepared to do whatever necessary as soon as he arrives.  This is one of those situations where we can’t see the other side of the Red Sea.  We don’t know God’s plan, but we know that He does have one!  We really must believe that or go mad!  So, today I ask you to join with me in praying for the Ellis/McRee/Boatman family and the birth of Baby Trenton, as we rejoice and praise God for who He IS, what He HAS DONE, and what He WILL DO.

“Do not be afraid.  Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today.  The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”  Exodus 14:13-14
